Leadr Announces $10M in Series A Funding
By: Matt Tresidder, Co-founder & CEO
It was the fall of 2018. I had spent six years on a startup rocket ship. It was awesome and exhausting all at the same time - so after six years, it was time for a break. My wife and I made our plans and packed our bags. We were off to travel the world for six months.
A few months into my trip, I got a call from Chris Heaslip who had co-founded Pushpay, the startup rocket ship I mentioned.
He said, “Hey, so what do you want to do next?”
I said, “All I know is that I want to start something.”
He said, “Well, what are you passionate about?”
I said, “Leading and developing others.”
And that led to months of dreaming about how we could use technology to make people better leaders. Then, in June of 2019, we co-founded Leadr.
The last two years have been a whirlwind of ideation, product innovation, creating our MVP, taking our product to market, dialing in the economics of running a business, all while trying to maintain the level of excellence our customers deserve.
This past year has been full of baby steps toward our mission to make people better leaders.
-
We started 2020 with zero customers. Today, we serve over 340 organizations.
-
In July 2020, we had 15 staff members. Today, we’ve grown to a team of over 40 full-time staff members (and we’re still hiring!).
-
A year ago, we had just a few beta users on the platform. Today, we have over 5,000 active monthly Leadr users.
Each baby step took a new customer believing in the importance of developing leaders at every level of their organization. It took a leader choosing to invest time, money, and resources into developing their people, not just managing them. It took one of our 40+ new hires saying yes to the risk of joining a startup because our mission of developing leaders is too important not to.
But today, we’re no longer taking baby steps.
Today, we’re taking leaps and bounds toward our mission of developing 1M leaders with the closing of our $10M Series A funding round. Read the official press release here.
And the only way we’ve gotten here is through every single Leadr - every single customer and each and every one of our team members believing that we can transform the workplace, one leader at a time.
And the best part? We’re just getting started.
This round of funding allows us to further our mission by continuing to:
-
invest in our product, sales, and customer success teams
-
build a world class experience for our Leadr customers
-
help leaders build new habits and rhythms to engage and grow every employee
-
expand into the human resource software space by offering additional benefits such as CoreHR and Health Plans so leaders can better care for their team
To Bedrock who is leading this round, thank you for believing in us and the change we’re trying to make in the world. You’ve been world-class to work with, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
To our Leadr friends and family who financially supported this round - Leadr Co-founder and Executive Chairman of the board, Chris Heaslip; Chief Revenue Officer of Intuit, Bobby Morrison; and Co-founder of Pushpay, Eliot Crowther - your generosity and support of this team is humbling. Thank you.
To every member of our Leadr team, thank you for taking a risk and joining this rocket ship startup. You make my Mondays better than my Fridays. None of this would be possible without every single one of you giving your best each and every day. Thanks for being all in.
And most importantly, to our customers... to every executive who has made the commitment to develop leaders at every level of your organization.
To every HR manager who puts people over processes.
To every frontline employee who uses Leadr to engage and grow themselves and their team...thank you.
Thank you for taking the leap with us, for giving us feedback, and helping us improve the product along the way. We wouldn’t be here without you, and we can’t wait to make Leadr better than ever.
This next chapter will be the hardest yet. So today, we celebrate, but we also take a deep breath. Because we need that breath in our lungs to begin the biggest sprint of our lives
This next stage will be the most difficult of our hyper-growth journey so far--but our mission of developing 1M leaders is absolutely worth it. We’re ready. Let’s go!
Lead on,
Matt
